Get to Know Us a Little Better...
Each year, about 800 young adults age 20-39 are diagnosed with cancer in the
greater Atlanta area. Most cancer programs in the U.S. have forgotten about
this group of patients. As a result, we often feel like we are the only ones
our age facing cancer.
When we look around the waiting room in our doctor's office, we are
always the youngest one there. It's a pretty lonely experience.
YACS Atlanta hosts monthly social events for cancer survivors in their
20s and 30s. We get together for dinner, drinks, trivia, or just to hang out.
No doctors or therapists. Just a group of new friends who can relate to the ups
and downs of the cancer roller coaster.
You are a survivor from the day you are diagnosed. In treatment or out, join us!
How It All Started
YACS Atlanta was founded by Jenn Potter in October 2006. Jenn is an 12-year
survivor of metastatic papillary thyroid cancer. Inspired by the Lance Armstrong
Foundation's LIVESTRONG Summit, Jenn founded YACS Atlanta to meet a
growing need for young adult supportive services in the metro Atlanta area. With
a Masters in public health and health education, Jenn has worked in cancer
outreach for over 10 years and is thrilled to ride the cancer roller coaster with
her feisty new friends.
